ZeXtras Chat Audit Logs

While all ZeXtras Chat conversations are stored by default in the /Chat folder within each user's mailbox, and additional logging system is available to administrators in order to perform Audit operations or to cope with particular legal needs (e.g.: in the US, compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act).

Enabling the ZeXtras Chat Audit Logs

In order to enable the ZeXtras Chat Audit Logs, the ZxChat_LogEnabled property must be set to true:

 zimbra@mail:~$ zxsuite chat getProperty
 ZxChat_Enabled                          true (true)
 ZxChat_LogEnabled                       false (false)
 ZxChat_IntervalSaveUndelivered          180 (180)
 ZxChat_IntervalPurge                    90 (90)
 ZxChat_MaxDLBuddies                     450 (450)

You can do so by running the following command:

zimbra@mail:~$ zxsuite chat setProperty ZxChat_LogEnabled true

                Property ZxChat_LogEnabled set to true

Viewing and Managing the ZeXtras Chat Audit Logs

Once Audit Logs are enabled, every ZeXtras Chat message will be logged in the /opt/zimbra/log/zxchat.log file. This file is automatically rotated each day and deleted after 8 days.
